Senior Footballers just miss out on Promotion

All Saints senior footballers ended their Division 2 league campaign with a 0-17 to 1-08 victory at home to Gort na Mona last night (Wednesday).

Unfortunately the victory was not enough to secure promotion to Division 1 as, at the same time, Aghagallon scored a late goal to beat Aldergrove in their final game to finish on 25 points, one point ahead of All Saints.

All Saints will look to all of the 6 games that they lost throughout the year, but probably mainly the home defeat to Aghagallon where they conceded a goal in the final moments to lose by 2 points.

All Saints will hope to put this disappointment behind them as they look forward to the Intermediate Championship semi final against Division 2 winners Rasharkin on Sunday 12th September.

Below are the complete results from All Saints’ games in Division 2 this year:

U16’s BOOK PLACE IN SHIELD FINAL

SW U-16 C’Ship Shield SF

Sunday 22nd August 2010

The Saints moved closer to their ultimate goal by defeating Lisburn at Ahoghill in front of a big crowd on Sunday afternoon.  The first half was a close affair. J Kelly opened the scoring for Saints with two well taken points but Lisburn kept in front for long stretches of the half, they were pressurizing the Saints defence who conceded too many easy frees.  Down by six points going into the last ten minutes of the half the Saints needed inspiration from somewhere and it came in the shape of a great solo goal from P Mc Aleer.  He followed it up with another point to keep up the momentum. The rest of the team seemed to gain heart from this point on, and finished the half ahead with a T Ferris goal after a strong run from J Gillan.

Half time Score: All Saints 2-5 Lisburn 0-9

The second half was nip and tuck, both sides were trading scores, points from D Mc Nally and P Mc Aleer was matched by a goal and three from Lisburn.  The Saints defence gained the upper hand going into the final quarter. The forwards started to click with the pick of the scores being a long range effort from C Loughran.  The Saints finished strongly running out winners by eight points.

Final Score:  All Saints 3-16 Lisburn 1-14

The team justified their league form by qualifying for the final, the hard work and dedication to training has paid off and hopes are high that they will bring the Shield back to Slemish Park next Sunday.

Young Saints Battle To Claim Final Spot.

SW U-12  C’Ship SF (2 Reports – by M Campbell & J Hasson)

All Saints 4-07 Sean Stinsons 3-07

This  was the proverbial game of two halves.Playing with a strong breeze in the first half All Saints dominated their opponents.Goals from Conor Gallagher and Ryan mcKenna put Ballymena in a strong position.Points from Ciaran Neeson,Conor Doherty,Josh King,Eamonn Elliott and Eoin Campbell left All Saints with a 2-06 to 0-02 half time lead.
However the second half was a different affair with Stinsons coming back strongly and cutting into the deficit. Our kids dug really deep though and second half goals from Owen Best and Eamonn Elliott along with a point from Conor Gallagher earned All Saints a magnificent victory.
This was a truly brilliant performance by our boys.In front of a huge (and much appreciated) All Saints support the boys refused to buckle under enormous second half pressure.Every single player stood up and was counted. These lads are an absolute credit to our club and deserve their place in next week’s final.Lets hope that the superb support they received from friends, family and club members follows them to Ahoghill for next week’s final

All Saints: 4-7,   Stinsons: 3-7

 (SW U12 Semi-Final)

 Fri 20th August 2010

All Saints met a strong committed Stinsons team at Toome on Friday evening and delivered a very good footballing performance to edge their way through to the final.

The All Saints boys played the first half with the advantage of a strong breeze and got off to a flying start scoring a 2-6 to 0-2. The first half goals coming from Conor Gallagher & Ryan McKenna, and points from Conor Doherty, Ciaran Neeson (2), Eamon Elliot, Josh King and Conor Gallagher.

The second half saw a Stinsons team start off very strong with 2 quick goals to reduce the deficit to 4 points. Stinsons with the aid of the breeze continued to bombard the All Saints defence who stood up resolutely to the waves of attack, with Eoin Campbell playing an excellent sweeper role, with the defense working the ball outwards through the wing half backs Paul Mairs & Eoin McGuigan.

The Saints replied with a well worked goal from Eoin Best slotting the ball home to increase the gap before Stinsons replied with a third goal. Both teams exchanged points before Eamon Elliot netted the Saints 4th goal of the evening.

The football play by both teams was free flowing and clean and a credit to both clubs who put on a good display for the many spectators who turned out to see the game.

All Saints had a very good team performance all round and credit goes to the full panel for achieving a memorable performance.

The final is against Creggan and is scheduled for Sunday 29th August 1pm at Ahoghill, come out and cheer our boys onto collecting the silver ware.

All Saints Qualify For First Minor Decider In 21 Years

All Saints qualified for their first minor championship final since 1989 when they overcame Sean Stinsons on Tuesday evening in front of a good crowd at Moneyglass. The Slemish Park outfit coming through on a scoreline of 1:13 – 1:12.

Both teams started nervously and it was the Ahoghill/Portglenone selection who seemed to settle the quickest as All Saints were guilty of some erratic shooting. The Ballymena boys got to grips with the pace of the game and finished off the half the stronger as they went in at half time 2 points to the good on a scoreline of

All Saints 0:07 – Sean Stinsons 0:05

The Stinsons boys came out in determined fashion at the start of the second half and a quick point followed by a goal saw them take control and establish a two point lead. The All Saints lads however refused to lie down and responded in equally determined fashion with a goal of their own. All Saints were  playing some fantastic football at this stage and picked off some great scores to further extend their lead.

Credit though to Sean Stinsons as they rallied again and had managed to reduce the All Saints lead to the minimum deep into stoppage time. There was much relief in the All Saints sections of the sizeable crowd when referee Stephen O Boyle blew the final whistle as the Slemish Park boys ran out one point winners on a final scoreline of

All Saints 1:13 – Sean Stinsons 1:12

The All Saints boys now progress to the County Final where they will play St Pauls.

Incidently the team who beat All Saints in the 1989 decider? ——- St Pauls!
