U16’s CONSOLIDATE TOP SPOT
Sunday 25th July 2010
This was crucial game with both teams on unbeaten runs and both in contention for a top four place. The Saints were definitely up for this game however Lisburn got off to the perfect start with a goal from their first attack. The Saints responded well with points from J Gillan and C Loughran, a goal from T Ferris gave All Saints the lead which they never conceded. J Kelly added another goal and T Ferris completed his hat trick with two well taken goals. The Saints played some of their best football this season to secure a 7 point lead at half time.
Half time Score: Lisburn 2-2 All Saints 4-3
The second half saw a strong comeback by Lisburn they penned the Saints into their own half for long periods, the only All Saints scores coming from two D Mc Nally points. Lisburn eventually whittled down the Saints lead to two points, which could have been less only for a great save by D Little from a point blank shot. With three minutes remaining a breakaway move resulted in a good goal from J Kelly, this sealed the victory for All Saints.
Final Score: Lisburn 3-6 All Saints 5-5
This result puts All Saints three points clear at the top of the table and barring any slip ups secures a top four playoff point.

U16’s CONTINUE UNBEATEN RUN
Thursday 22nd July 2010
After the previous weeks drawn game with Cargin, the Saints took the short trip to Whitehill. They welcomed back C Campion, returning to the squad after recovering from a broken collar bone. Unfortunately Tir Na Nog could only field 13 players so the game took on an uneven shape from the throw in. The scores came regularly throughout the first half, the downside was the two soft goals conceded which meant the score at half time did not reflect the dominance of All Saints.
Half time Score: Tir Na Nog 3-2 All Saints 3-10
The second half continued in same vein as the first, All Saints did not fully exploit the extra space available but still did enough to run out comfortable winners. The highlight of the second half being another penalty save by D Little who is becoming a bit of a specialist in this skill. Goals from T Ferris and C Mc Larnon with points from P Killough, D Mc Nally and J Gillan completed the scoring.
Final Score: Tir Na Nog 4-5 All Saints 5-14
With Creggan losing to Lisburn on the same night this result meant that All Saints returned to the top of table and moved closer to securing a top four playoff spot.
Squad
D Little, O Bradley, P Killough, D Mussen, T Connelly, C Neeson, D Mc Kee, P Mc Aleer, D Mc Nally, J Gillan, T Ferris , C Mc Larnon, D Crawford, C Loughran, L Kirk, J Kelly, N Mc Carry, C Campion

All Saints GAC Cúl Camp 2010 – A Resounding Success
Friday the 9th of July saw the finish of another hugely successful Cúl camp at All Saints GAC, Ballymena. All children went home safe, sound and fully aware of the benefits of VHI Healthcare! Suitably attired in their kits, bags and medals.
Friday was deemed as a ‘Day of Celebration’, celebrating all the successful moments the children had experienced from the Monday onwards. To celebrate the learning and mastering of many Gaelic skills throughout the week the coaches had laid out a course/series of skills tests which the children passed with flying colours, the coaches then marking these on the children’s ‘Skills Passports’.
Paddy Cunningham paid a much anticipated visit to the camp early Friday to share in the success of the children, firstly presenting the Saffron óg children with their footballs, then speaking to the children and signing any autographs for the grateful children. Paddy spoke to the children at length, reminding them of the importance of practising their skills not just at the Cúl camp but also at home. Several interesting questions then followed for the Antrim maestro, children enquiring as to where the shuffle came from, who was his toughest opponent on the field of play and even, what was the best drink to take before playing a game of football!
The 2010 camp hosted 80 children on a week where there was much rain anticipated but in the end didn’t really materialise, Tuesday and Friday threatened but it wasn’t enough to dampen the spirits of the eager children from the All Saints club and some from other neighbouring clubs too. All children were given a week’s coaching by the club’s (mostly) young coaches with the emphasis being on fun, enjoyment and friendships. Each day the children were given coaching on two different skills of the game and then at lunchtime children sat in their groups and enjoyed a healthy lunch with their coaches where GAA quizzes took place to test the children’s knowledge of all things GAA.
The children finished off their week with a healthy B-B-Q and a presentation by their coaches of bags, medals and skills passports. The club’s last two camps were successful ventures however 2010 took the camp to a new level and this was down largely, to the number of enthusiastic coaches that the club had at their disposal, many thanks to them all for helping the club and the children.
All in all, a great start to the Summer of 2010.
This article and photos taken by Paddy McIllwaine will appear in this week’s Ballymena Chronicle. Photos from the week long Cúl Camp taken by Eamon McKillop and Denis Rocks will appear on the website gallery shortly.

Match Reports
U8s
Our U8s had their first run out this season when they competed in a blitz in Cushendall. They got off to a flying start against Cushendun when Maria O’Rawe scored the only goal of the game. Buoyed by this victory the team put in some great performances in the rest of their matches and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The experience and confidence gained from their performances will stand to them in future matches.
Thanks to North Antrim for organising the event and the Ruairi Óg club for hosting the teams.
U12s
U12 League v Glenarm
Two weeks ago our U12s travelled to Feystown for an U12 league match. The squad was depleted somewhat due to injuries and end of school commitments but the lads put up a spirited display against a strong Glenarm side.
P5/P6 Blitz
The following week we were due to host a P5/P6 blitz at Slemish Park, however a number of South West Antrim teams failed to field and unfortunately the blitz was cancelled. We have made a decision to ask that All Saints be included at a North Antrim venue for future blitzes.
Feis na nGleann
At the end of May we entered the Feis na nGleann ten a side ground hurling competition. The event saw the welcome return of Daire Hasson. Daire had been out of action since sustaining an injury when playing football in Croke Park in April. He played in goals where he anchored an impressive defensive unit in which Conor McCormick, Joseph McCann and Padhraig Magill excelled. Conor O’Rawe continued some recent good form at training with two fine goals.
The lads done very well and they qualified for the final after a play off with Rasharkin. The final, played in Glenariffe, was against Glenarm. The lads needed little motivation as they were keen to reverse the result of their previous meeting. A strong wind blew down the glen making conditions less than ideal for hurling but both teams put on a great show. Playing against the wind in the first half All Saints had to withstand a lot of pressure before relief came in the form of a great point by Ryan McGarry scored from mid field. Glenarm came back with a wind assisted point from a sideline cut to leave the score equal at half time. The lads felt confident as they fielded for the second half. Ronan Ward came on for the injured Cormac Lemon and added strength at mid field. Things were looking good but we could not convert possession into scores. Then came the sucker punch – a seemingly harmless shot that was going wide deflected off a stick and the sliotar took a wicked change of direction and ended in the Ballymena goal. There was little time to recover and the lads learned what every Louth supporter knows – sport can sometimes be a cruel.
The boys can be proud of their achievement and an ice cream on the way home went a little way to ease the disappointment.
Congratulations
Congratulations to Colum Neeson who lined out at full back on the St Brendan’s team that won the McMullan Cup (U16 North Antrim Championship) on Feis Sunday. Colum helps to coach our juveniles; we wish him and St Brendan’s well in the county final later in the year.
U12 League v Randalstown
The lads were back in action on Saturday when they played Randalstown at home. Winning by 2:02 to 0:01 at half time this game looked in the bag, but Randalstown came out strongly and took the lead before All Saints came back to restore order.
This was a great team performance in which everyone played their part. Anthony McGuigan, in goals, marshalled the defence and set up attacks with astute puck outs.
In front of him Alex Swann, Conor McCormick and Padhraig Magill made up a mean back line. Eamon Elliott and Eoin McGuigan scored a point each and along with Ryan McGarry, Calum McGarry and Ronan Ward their movement and passing showed great vision and maturity. Up front Ryan McKenna, Conor O’Rawe and Niall O’Kane were unfortunate not to get a score or two; their efforts caused disarray and a few nervous moments in the opposition defence. Conor Gallagher returned to the fold like the Prodigal Son and added strength to the half back line. Ciarán Neeson, who missed the Feis due to injury made an impressive comeback, capped by a late pile driver of a penalty, which would have done Henry Shefflin proud, to seal victory.
Final Score: All Saints 3:03 Randalstown 2:03

Young Saints Hurlers Make Club Proud

All Saints P2, P3 & P4 Hurlers
Recently our p2, p3 and p4 hurlers were invited to take part in a hurling blitz in Cushendall. This was the first time our youngest hurlers in the club had a chance to test themselves aginst children from other clubs. Our team got off to a very good start against Cushendun, with a one to nil victory, the goal scored by Maria O’Rawe. This turned out to be our only win of the day as we came up against some very good teams. All involved should be very proud of the effort displayed by this relatively young team. Well done to all.
Thanks to Roisin O’Boyle for compiling this report.
Big Weekend for All Saints Footballers
It will be a busy few days of action for All Saints footballers this weekend as there are no less than 4 big games in 3 days.
On Friday, there is a top-of-the-table Division 2 clash between All Saints and Rasharkin at Slemish Park with a 7.30pm throw in.
This is promising to be a great game as the sides have already met 3 times this year, with both sides claiming a victory a piece and the other game finished in a draw after 80 minutes of an absorbing contest.
This game could certainly prove crucial as both sides bid for promotion to the top tier of Antrim football.
On Saturday, All Saints will bid for a unique double as we compete in the North Antrim Feis na Gleann Junior and Senior Football Finals, being hosted this year in Glenariffe.
At 1.30pm, our Junior Footballers will take on St Endas, while the Senior Final will be contested between All Saints and Dunloy at 3.00pm.
On Sunday, our Division 5 footballers will take on Lamh Dhearg at Slemish Park, with a 2.00pm throw in. In the away fixture Lamh Dhearg ended up comfortable winners so the Saints will certainly be keen to make amends this time round.
We hope the Saints support will be out in force this weekend to get behind our boys … Naomh Uile Abú!!!
Thank-you from our Marathon Men
All Saints club members Barney McCann, Desy Metrustry and John McCann would like to thank all those who supported their fundraising efforts when they ran the Edinburgh marathon.
As Antrim and Tyrone were clashing in the Ulster Senior Football Championship, the three men were completing the gruelling 26 mile run round Edinburgh in the searing heat.
Pictured are the trio just before they headed to the start line.
The three men have currently raised just over £2,500 to be divided equally between the three charities: Macmillan Cancer Support, Breast cancer care and NI Hospices.
Of course, if anyone would still like to make a donation, they can do so by contacting them.
