GREAT COMEBACK KEEPS SAINTS U-16s ON TOP
Thursday 17th June 2010
The Saints had to dig deep in the second half of this game to earn a point in Creggan. The lads showed real guts and determination to turn around a game they were losing by eight points with twelve minutes to go. This was typified by a full length dive on the goal line by Timmy “White Blur” Connelly to block a certain goal.
The game started with both sides trading scores, P Mc Aleer opening for the Saints with two points and a goal. A goal from J Gillan and a point from J Kelly kept the score level. Creggan then went on a point scoring stretch scoring five points in a row with no reply from Saints. At this point Saints were under pressure and giving away too many frees in front of the posts. C Loughran ended the first half scoring with an important goal to keep Saints in touch.
The score at half time Creggan 2-9 All Saints 3-3
Creggan stretched their lead in the second half and Saints were struggling to keep themselves in the game. Two points from a heavily marked P Mc Aleer were all Saints registered in the first ten minutes. The defence were working overtime to keep Creggan out with a couple of goal line clearances, and then goals from T Ferris and D Mc Nally changed the game. The team rallied and finished the stronger, another goal from T Ferris and the equaliser from J Kelly meant the points were shared.
This result was a credit to the team, when the pressure was on they kept it together against one of the main contenders for the Shield.
Final Score: All Saints 8-5 Creggan 5-14
