(All Saints – Juvenile Hurling)

U10 Provincial Blitz

Well done to everyone who took part in the indoor blitz last Saturday at Meadowbank Arena in Magherafelt. Due to a few last minute withdrawals we were unable to field two teams as anticipated, so we divided the lads into two groups of four. Each group played alternate games with the goalkeeper for each game provided by a member from the other group. We handed responsibility for organising the teams over to the players, Ryan McGarrry and Cormac Magill were appointed captains. We were very impressed by how each group organised themselves, agreed positions and decided tactics. So successful was the combined result that both groups went through the competition unbeaten and All Saints finished top of their section.

(Team mentors have since collected their P45s and are currently negotiating redundancy packages).

Everyone played really well, for some such as Rory and Michael Kelly and Jordan Graffin this was their first taste of competitive hurling. We were delighted to see how well they played alongside more seasoned campaigners such as Calum McGarry, Conor O’Rawe and Ruairi McAllister.

The lads showed great sportsmanship and hurling nous, and this, combined with their exemplary behaviour off the pitch, made them great ambassadors for the club.

This was a mammoth event with one hundred and eight teams from each county in Ulster taking part. We would like to thank Ulster Hurling Council for organising the blitz and inviting All Saints to this hurling fleadh.

Coaching Events – Paudie Butler on Tour

Tipperary native and National Hurling Director, Paudie Butler, is presenting a series of coaching events over the next few days. Paudie is a charismatic character with an infectious enthusiasm and passion for hurling. Typically his sessions are action packed and focussed on developing skills via fun filled activities and drills. He is well worth going to see.

.

Hurling Fundamentals Session

The first of Paudie’s sessions is a Hurling Fundamentals session in the Parish Hall, Glenariffe on Thursday evening, 11th March. The session is indoors and targeted at coaches and parents involved with 7 – 12 year olds.

Wall Ball Session

Paudie is in Belfast on Friday 12th March at La Salle College, Edenmore Drive, where he will conduct a wall ball session from 7pm to 8pm.

Coach the Coaches

On Saturday 13th March Paudie will be one of the tutors at a “Coach the Coaches” course being held at Edmund Rice College, Glengormley. Dinny Cahill (current Antrim manager), Jim Nelson (ex Antrim manager) and John Crossey (ex Down manager) make up the remainder of an impressive line up of tutors for this course. There is a nominal fee of £5:00 to cover lunch and refreshments

If you’re interested in going to any of these events, phone Paddy (07708878968) or, contact Kieran Megraw (07918 719791); e-mail: kieran.megraw.ulster@gaa.ie

This is an excellent video showing a typical wall ball session which we recommend all our young hurlers to watch. But make sure you get permission first! Many of the drills can be practised at home with a soft ball and a wall.
