U10 Hurling Blitz
Well done to our U10 hurlers who took part in an indoor blitz at St Patrick’s College last Saturday. The event was organised by Antrim GAA and was designed to provide opportunity for teams to practice for the upcoming Ulster Provincial Indoor Hurling blitz that will be held in Magherafelt on 06th March. Besides All Saints, three other teams took part; Rasharkin, Ballycastle and Larne. Poor weather deterred a few other teams from travelling.
It was agreed to play two rounds of games so that teams would play each other twice. Ulster Council indoor hurling rules differ from those used by North Antrim, especially the requirement to change goal keepers after each goal and the fact that there is no “D”. Team mentors embraced the changes and the kids adapted quickly to produce a series of exciting matches
While the games were competitive this event was more about providing everyone the opportunity to play hurling and gain match experience. We won a few, drew a few and lost a few. The lads enjoyed themselves so much that after the two scheduled rounds of matches were finished everyone agreed to stay on and play a third round.
The squad was a mixture of “youth and experience”. Hardened veterans; Eoghan Daly Ryan McGarry, Cormac Magill, Conor O’Rawe and Calum McGarry were joined by Ruairi McAllister and Christopher McCallan.
Eoghan Daly was a steadying influence as he marshalled defence while Ryan McGarry was a work horse in midfield, with his non stop running. Twin snipers, Conor O’Rawe and Cormac Magill, were always dangerous; each scoring a hat trick at different times. Calum McGarry made his first appearance this year and took to the indoor game like a duck to water with determined tackling and strong striking.
Ruairi McAllister and Christopher McCallan are new to the squad this year. Ruairi is developing into a fine hurler, his tackling was particularly strong and he made a number of crucial blocks over the period. Christopher only started playing hurling last week, he done very well and had the distinction of keeping the only clean slate of the day when in goals.
Six year old Ronan McKillop was playing rugby earlier in the morning but arrived in time to make a cameo appearance in the last match. He looked comfortable, got stuck in and was unfortunate not to score a goal or two.
Thanks to Antrim coaching officers, Kieran Megraw and Dominic McKinley for organising the event and to the mentors and young hurlers from Rasharkin, Ballycastle and Larne for making the morning so enjoyable.

Coaching
Thank you and well done to all parents who are helping out with coaching children on Wednesday nights. Your involvement is very much appreciated and it is obvious that the children enjoy, and benefit from, your participation.
If anyone is interested in gaining more coaching experience, there is a seminar at Cross and Passion College this Saturday 27th February. If you’re interested in going along, phone Paddy (07708878968).
Thanks also to our U12 hurlers who are helping out with coaching younger children. You’re doing a great job.
Juvenile Registration and Membership
We are into a new season and juvenile membership is now due. Details of juvenile membership and training fees are attached. If you have not registered your child please complete the attached form and return it with a cheque payable to “All Saints GAC”. You can also register your child on Monday night at St Louis Grammar School during the Fundamental training.
Please note that membership and training fees entitle children to participate in all club activities – Hurling, Camogie, Football and Fundamentals.
Where else would you get value like it?
Safety Notice
We remind all parents and guardians of the dangers of the car park at night and that all children should be collected from the hall after training. Children will be asked to stay in the hall until they are picked up.
