(All Saints – Juvenile Hurling)
U10 Hurlers Top of Indoor League
The North Antrim U0 Indoor Hurling League kicked off last Saturday. Fifty five teams from five counties were involved at eight venues throughout Antrim and Derry.
At the Ballymena venue All Saints finished in pole position. They beat Loughguille, Randalstown, Con Magees and Sean Stinsons. Their only defeat was to Creggan in a tight game which was decided by a single goal. Creggan in turn were beaten by Con Magees leaving All Saints and Creggan joint first, Con Magees finished third.
We were very impressed with the lads. Seventeen goals scored and only three conceded illustrates how clinical our attack and mean our defence were.
Cormac Lemon, Ryan McGarry and Cormac Magill formed the spine of the team. All are seasoned campaigners who played in the U12 league last year.
Ryan commanded midfield with his tenacious tackling and his strong striking netted him a tally of thirteen goals. His most impressive shot however was a narrow miss against Creggan when he unleashed a thunderbolt from the half way line that hit the crossbar. The resultant seismic tremors had everyone ducking for cover. Up front Cormac Magill was a constant thorn to the opposition. He chased every ball, harried defenders and laid off well placed passes to team mates. When moved to defence he was uncompromising in his tackles. Cormac Lemon had taken a sabbatical from hurling over the winter to concentrate on soccer (good athletes are always in demand). He blew the cobwebs off his hurl and cemented his return with some fine stick work and resolute defending. Conor O’Rawe and Eoghan Daly made the step up from the U8 ranks and slotted seamlessly into the squad. Conor was particularly impressive in goals, making a number of crucial saves and fine puck outs. Eoghan was cool as a cucumber in defence where his positional sense and timing showed maturity beyond his years.
We had three debutants: Sinead McGarry, Ronan Tierney and Kuba Babuszewski. Sinead was not phased by the boys, and, not to be outdone by her big brother, she marked her debut by slotting in a nice goal against Sean Stinsons. Ronan and Kuba had not played hurling before, but they showed great aptitude and performed well when they came on. With a couple of training sessions under their belts we are convinced that they will soon be battling for starting places on the team.
The second round of the competition is next week. This is a seeded round, where similarly placed teams from the first round of matches are placed in the same division. Both Ballymena and Creggan will compete in Division 2. Matches will be played at St Patrick’s College. The lads can expect some stiff opposition, but we are confident that they will meet the challenge.

Safety Notice for Parents and Guardians
The car park and driveway are quite dark at night and can be busy with traffic especially when children are being left off and picked up.
This creates a hazard for children. We would ask all parents/ guardians leaving or collecting children to adhere to the following procedures that are intended to safeguard the safety of children attending the training sessions.
- When dropping children off please escort them to the hall. Do not allow children to run into the hall from the car park unaccompanied.
- When collecting children please come into the hall to pick them up. Do not beckon children to leave the hall from the corridor – this causes confusion and creates difficulty in checking which children have been picked up.
- If you notice an unaccompanied child in the car park or driveway, please escort them back to the hall and inform one of the coaches.
Remember – no children should be outside without an adult.
- Please arrive in time to collect your child. If you anticipate that you may be delayed please inform one of the coaches.
- Please note that we are unable to look after younger children during the second session. Parents are asked to collect children promptly; anyone with another child attending the second session is welcome to remain.
Please tell your children about these arrangements.
