All Saints GAC Juveniles and Ballymena RFC minis learn from each other.
This weekend saw the continuation of joint training sessions between children from All Saints GAA club and Ballymena RFC minis.
The event was kindly hosted by All Saints and although they could not organise the weather all children and coaches in attendance had a great time and learnt much about the similarities of the two games.
After a strenuous warm-up (coaches excused) those not familiar with rugby spent time learning the basics of passing, tackling and mauling whilst those not familiar with Gaelic football were shown how to pick the ball up, solo with the ball, hand pass the ball and of course tackle.
All then joined in a very tightly fought game of rugby followed by a similarly close game of Gaelic football.
Thanks must go to the mini coaches from both All Saints and BRFC who gave of their time so willingly. Several more sessions are planned and all are welcome. It is hoped that early in 2010 the children will have an opportunity to play exhibition matches at both Eaton Park and All Saints before major league games.

All Saints GAC CDP: Developing Coaches, Developing Our Juveniles
This Saturday sees the start of the 2009/10 All Saints CDP (Coaching Develoment Programme). Friday night starts the ball rolling with the Child Protection Certificate Course (7pm start), followed on Saturday morning by the Football Foundation Course (10am start) and next Saturday’s Hurling and camogie Foundation course. These courses are intended for anyone wishing to coach/mentor or help out in any way with our juvenile teams this year. The Club wants the best for our juveniles and therefore want our coaches to provide the best coaching available. It is with this in mind that the club have invested in this scheme and therefore you, the coach, do not have to pay for this accredited course. It is hoped then that you will use your coaching award for the benefit of the children of this club. We hope to see you there over the next two weeks.
PLEASE NOTE: These courses will be part theory part practical, therefore as we say to all our juveniles, please come suitably attired. It is recommended that you wear/bring a tracksuit/wet gear, trainers and football boots. It is advised that you bring a lunch with you and a pen and pad.

A Child Protection course will be run by the club at Slemish Park on Friday evening beginning at 7pm. It is hoped the course will finish around 9pm. It is essential that if you are coaching children or working with them in any way this year that you have a child protection certificate. It is also good practice to keep your credentials updated therefore the GAA are advising that you renew the licence every 3 years. This course is the opener for the Football Foundation Course on Saturday Morning (17th Oct), and the Hurling Foundation Course on the Following Saturday (24th Oct). If you wish to attend the child protection course solely as an update you are free to do so.
