Hurling Development Plan Workshop
| April 21, 2009 | ||
| 7:00 pm | to | 9:00 pm |
North Antrim Coaching and Development Committee have launched a development plan to promote hurling coaching and games. The plan mimics an approach taken in Munster, and has been drawn up in association with top Munster coaches. The idea is to share knowledge and replicate best practice in our clubs.
Tutors, who have been trained by Munster coaches, will “adopt” a club and assist in delivering a club plan for juveniles. Alec Campbell from Ballycastle has been assigned to assist All Saints.
To kick start the process, a meeting will be held on Tuesday 21st April in the club room at Slemish Park. All club members, senior players, parents and teachers are invited.
One of the key lessons learnt from Munster is the importance of getting parents involved in coaching and running teams. We therefore invite parents to come along as guests of honour to share your views and ideas and agree a way forward to progress hurling within the club.

Schools & Club 125 Celebrations
As we all know, 2009 marks the 125th Anniversary of the GAA, and it would be great to mark it with a couple of great days …
The 24th April is National GAA 125 Schools Day and the 10th May is La na gClub.
Both these dates are fixed in the National and Provincial Calendar as days of celebration to mark the 125th Anniversary in our schools and clubs.
Below are some ideas that we could use to mark the occasions.
This is a great opportunity to generate a great buzz around the club.
If you have any suggestions, please post them or let any committee members know.
Ideas for GAA 125 Schools Day (Friday 24th April 2009)
· Pupils could wear their GAA colours (Club, School or County) to school
· A past or present GAA personality could be invited in to talk to pupils
· Teachers could use the GAA Céim ar Aghaidh resource to deliver a GAA themed lesson in any subject
· Pupils could complete GAA projects and display them around the school
· A gaelic games sports day could be held with fun competitions in hurling, gaelic football, camogie, handball, rounders
· An internal school Scór na nÓg competition could be hosted
· A GAA poster competition could be held with the posters then displayed around the local GAA Club House on La na gClub 10th May
· Hold a tree planting to mark the GAA “125” Schools Day
Ideas for La an gClub (Sunday 10th May 2009)
· 5/7-a-side competition based on house areas (E.g. Deramore / Frys Road / Broughshane Road / Cushendall Road etc)
· Each of the primary schools design a banner and have a parade at the club
· Long Puck / Kick Competitions
· Athletics Competitions
· Irish Dancing
· Scór entertainment
· BBQ
· Challenge Game between 1986 and 2008 Intermediate Championship winning teams
· Photo of all club members on the pitch, taken from height
· Hanging of 125 flag (will be provided by Comhairle Uladh in the club pack)
· Open air mass at pitch
· Rounders match with mixed teams
· Have a memory book for all people to sign
· Have it recorded on video and put highlights on club website
Senior Football Challenge Game v Drumsurn
All Saints’ final challenge game before the League campaign ended in defeat at the hands of Drumsurn on Sunday.
All Saints won the toss and played against a stiff breeze in the first half. Drumsurn immediately won the throw in and quickly worked the ball inside to register the first point after about 10 seconds.
All Saints battled hard for the rest of the first half but Drumsurn’s better accuracy saw them go in at half time with a 1-11 to 1-03 lead. The All Saints goal came from Paul McCann who pounced on a mistake in the Drumsurn defence.
For periods of the second half All Saints lifted their game and popped on some nice scores, but 2 breakaway goals for Drumsurn sealed the win.
All Saints will be certainly be hoping for a better performance this Sunday when they travel to Dunloy for the first Division 2 ACFL game.
